With all of this dictating our workforces pace and ability to maintain a high level of performance with out the need to increase the work load to a point were their health deteriorates and our investment starts to decrease in value. Many of the challenges being encountered by businesses theses days leave very little time to develop positive forward looking staff. The pressure to meet ever increasing targets with fewer staff and under evening caressingly tight budgets has left many employees disillusioned and desperate for change.
The new millennium has been in existence for a little over 6 years and yet 50 years ago we were all told all of the new labour saving devices that were being developed would save us so much time we would not know what to do with ourselves. We would be fitter and have more leisure time than ever. Space travel was going to be commonplace and illness was going to be a thing of the past.
Yet in reality we have ever increasing raising cases of obesity and all of the illnesses that are associated with a sedentary life style. We have no real time for our children, or look after our own health and wellbeing. Yet to maintain the same standard of living as we did in the sixties we only have to work a 20-hour week. The modern life has increased exponentially to a point were the frailty of our basic human body can no longer keep pace with the pace of life we are all being told is normal.
The message is plain and simple if we do not look after our work force and have a strategic police in place to maintain our work force at its optimum capacity then we do not have a sustainable business. The unnerving truth is that into days work place we have a myriad of laws and directive about maintaining our plant, computers even down to testing of every plug and electrical appliance, yet many of our top companies in a competitive market place have no real workforce maintenance programme.
